Hiking In The Drakensberg Does Not Need To Be An Unpleasant ...

Hiking in the Drakensberg is not everyone?s cup of tea. Whilst extremely breathtaking, and home to a variety of indigenous flora and fauna, the Drakensburg region is additionally rather rocky and a number of the hiking trails are quite arduous. A great deal of people, especially women, are not so eager to consume ready-made meals and subsequently bunk down without a hot shower on the hard soil in a flimsy camping tent at the conclusion of a long, sweaty day?s hiking. Moreover, you never know what creepy-crawlies could come visiting during the night and this is enough to disrupt the possibility of an already miserable night?s slumber.

Therefore if, like me, you are among those people who like the idea of walking in the Drakensberg yet not the fact of slumbering on the cold hard ground then ?glamping? may be just the thing to suit your needs. Glamping, as you might have earlier discerned, is a combination of the words ?glamour? and ?camping?, and is a comparatively new inclusion to the camping glossary. In the most stringent sense, glamping refers to camping as a deluxe and five-star encounter where an individual might enjoy massages, good food and Egyptian cotton bedding, and the only aspect which in the slightest is similar to camping is that you can take an outdoor shower with a view of your surroundings. But on condition that you wish to, that is.

Civilisation is reaching every corner of the planet nowadays and commercial enterprise is hot on its heels so it is not surprising that luxury and ease have reached just about all except the remotest of locations. Despite the fact that the term ?glamping? is strictly-speaking related to five-star luxury lodgings, it is nonetheless feasible to enjoy a semi-glamping experience that is not just cheaper but offers you several cozy amenities too. The Drakensburg area boasts a variety of accommodation options with an array of facilities so you can decide either to ?rough? it or stay in luxury.

Needless to say, too much commercialism and extravagance can spoil the splendor of nature which is precisely what many people wish to escape the rat race for in the first place. Ultimately, what most people desire is a harmony between encountering nature and savoring a hot meal and a comfy mattress later. Luckily, there exists a range of hiking paths of varying duration and stages of physical effort that a person can take in the Drakensburg. If you do not wish to over-exert yourself, much less set up a tent after your walk, then there are quite a few trails that take from a couple of hours to a day to complete. You can easily go on a stroll this way yet still return in time for dinner at your accommodation, which, at the minimum, will offer facilities such as a shower area with hot water and a proper bed in a chalet. For those who want to enjoy comfort with a modicum of the outdoors, escorted tours are an option where your pack is sent to a hutted camping site for you.

On the other hand, intrepid backpackers who?re trying to find a rugged, untamed camping experience will, sadly, have to literally go to the ends of the earth to escape civilisation nowadays but for those of us who like to experience some of the comforts of home in addition to our camping vacation, hiking in the Drakensburg has become an appealing undertaking.
